Who We Are

The National Black Business Trade Association (NBBTA) is a self-help membership organization that works to assist Black business owners and entrepreneurs to succeed. Unlike other business organizations, NBBTA focuses on helping home-based and small business owners and entrepreneurs make money, not excuses. We are not an "issues" oriented organization. We are solution based.

Established in 1993, we are dedicated to our mission of  improving the quality of life in the Black community. Our goal is to uplift, inspire, educate, empower and promote on the benefits of Black business ownership and entrepreneurship to consumers, businesses, foreign entities and governments worldwide.

Trade Associations can be a comprehensive source of information on professional and business resources that are very industry and niche specific.

Your business can benefit from membership in a niche specific trade association by being kept up-to-date on trends, laws, and the dynamics of economics that are effecting your business industry.

Trade Associations are a powerful resource for building and expanding your networking and business opportunities. They can be used for evaluating goods and services. They are useful for finding experienced employees or sources of capital.

Our assistance to Black businesses comes through our offerings, which include: access to a host of business loans, training, referrals, consulting, workshops, networking, expos, publications, and technological support. We are regarded by many as the premier business organization in the world representing Black home-based to small business owners and entrepreneurs. This niche market represents some of America's best and brightest and is the fastest growing.

     What We  Do

We serve as a gateway to the world of business and entrepreneurship for those just starting out and as a harbor for those who have already started and are on their "entrepreneurial journey". We provide a host of benefits that would be of interest to anyone wanting to do business in the world today.

We are on the frontline in helping to promote the positive aspects of Black business and its contribution to America and the world.

The U.S. Census Bureau recently released data showing that minority- owned businesses are growing faster than other businesses -- and black-owned businesses have been growing at the fastest rate of all.

The total number of U.S. businesses grew by 10 percent between 1997 and 2002, the most recent data available. By contrast, the number of black-owned businesses grew by a whopping 45 percent.

The number of Hispanic-owned businesses grew by 31 percent, and the number of Asian-owned businesses grew by 24 percent.

Minority-owned firms still make up a small proportion of all American enterprises -- about 18 percent of the country's 23 million businesses, according to the 2002 Census Bureau data.

According to the Small Business Administration (SBA), there are over 945,000 Black businesses in America. The number in 2005 is 1.2 million according to a recent US Census Bureau report. NBBTA reaches around 200,000 Black owned businesses and entrepreneurs through its networks both on and offline. We need to increase our membership. Black businesses today account for over $92.7 billion in annual sales.

The makeup of entrepreneurship will change dramatically in the next 10-15 years as major demographic shifts create new profiles of business owners. The next generation of entrepreneurs are predicted to be older, female, Hispanic or African American. The majority will be home-based.
